Much like how he got injured off-set, Ferrell has experienced bodily harm while shooting movies and TV shows. In a 2021 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Adam McKay recalled the time the entertainer nearly suffered an unfortunate accident on set.

Although Ferrell escaped without getting hurt in McKay’s movie, he unfortunately could not avoid getting injured in Season 7 of “The Office.” LOOPER reported that TV producer Greg Daniels recalled the incident while speaking to hosts Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey on the “Office Ladies” podcast.

Ferrell, who played DeAngelo Vickers on the show, had to shoot a scene where he mimicked Michael Jordan’s free-throw line dunk from the 1988 NBA slam-dunk contest.

The scene ended with Ferrell pulling the entire basket, backboard, and support down on his head, eventually leading to his character’s death. Daniels confessed that he wasn’t confident about the scene because Ferrell had to be hoisted by a harness and rope rig.

His fears came through when those controlling the rig pulled too hard and the actor slammed into the basketball rim, injuring his knee. Daniels noted he wanted to call off the scene, but Ferrell stopped him to continue shooting.
