Snoop Dogg’s Homophobic Comment Spark ‘The Voice’ Crisis Talk

Is Snoop Dogg about to lose his spot on “The Voice“?

The legendary rapper is now in a hotspot with the producers of the show after he made a statement on same-sex marriage, contrary to what the singing show stands for.

Snoop Dogg’s homophobic backlash comes months after a bout of online exchanges earlier in the year when he honored an invitation to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration ball.

The rapper, set to appear on the next season of the show, is currently on shaky grounds after his commentary on two mothers raising a son on the “Toy Story” spin-off “Lightyear.”

The backlash from his comments about the movie reportedly led executives at NBC to call for an emergency meeting over how his views might potentially affect the show. A source close to the show affirmed that NBC and its executives certainly do not want to be involved in that kind of mess.

“Production had to remind him that he works for an inclusive, apolitical, family-friendly show, and comments like this only go on to create a divisive environment,” the insider noted.

The implications of Snoop’s little speech on the podcast about his experience seem to run deep, as the source added that it may also spill over to the contestants and their emotions.

Crew members are also not spared from feeling the heat of Snoop’s words, as they may now begin to feel like the set is not a safe space for them, given that different people are working behind the scenes.

He is now described as a liability to the producers, and his journey with the show is shadowed by uncertainty. Aside from the fact that things are not going as planned with his presence on the new season, he also seems uninterested in the show and the contestants.

“Then all the outside noise, his politics, and all of that, it’s not a good look,” a source stated, adding that people were upset he brought the dark and ugly energy of politics into a show trying to be an escape from all the drama.

The Grammy winner appeared on the “It’s Giving” podcast, where host Sarah Fontenot got a piece of his mind about a recent visit to the cinema with his grandson.

He recalled his shock at his grandson’s question, asking why another woman had a baby with another woman. As reported by The Blast, he confessed that the question left him very scared to go to the movies, as it had put him in a difficult position.

Snoop’s critiques wasted no time in clapping back at his comments, reminding him that he had earlier appeared in a production featuring gay characters, which gives him no right to speak ill of the same characters on any show.

The rapper appeared as a guest star in two episodes of “The L Word,” where he played a fictional rapper in a music video featuring the late Kim Porter.

Snoop’s statement also attracted commentary from Lauren Gunderson, the writer of “Lightyear,” who declared on Threads that the artist sucks. The Blast shared that the writer acknowledged being shocked to hear what Snoop thought about the production and expressed hope for a change in his perspective.

“Lightyear” is one of Disney’s initiatives towards achieving diversity and inclusivity within the company, as it features several characters from diverse backgrounds.

In 2022, Karey Burke, president of the company’s General Entertainment Content, explained that she was surprised to learn that only a handful of Disney’s lead characters were queer.

“We have many, many, many LGBTQIA characters in our stories and yet we don’t have enough leads and narratives in which gay characters just get to be characters and not have to be about gay stories,” she noted at the time.

Burke affirmed that she is a parent to two queer kids, including one transgender child and one pansexual child.
