Shares of Nidec Corp plunged as much as 22.44% Thursday, after the company announced a probe into alleged improper accounting at one of its subsidiaries.
The creation of an independent third-party committee comes after an internal investigation of its Chinese subsidiary, Nidec Techno Motor, for the alleged malpractice, which revealed evidence suggesting a link to Nidec’s management.
“The Company recognized limitations in the previous investigation system engaging external experts and led by members of the Audit and Supervisory Committee, as well as the need for objective investigations by a third-party committee independent of the Company,” Nidec said in a statement Wednesday.
This marks the Japanese electronics components manufacturer’s biggest one-day drop.
