Princess Diana’s hairdresser, Sam McKnight, has lashed out at internet trolls who have been criticizing Kate Middleton’s recent hairstyle change.

McKnight, who styled Diana’s hair for years, took to his Instagram account on Thursday to defend the future queen, noting that a “woman’s hair is very personal to her” and that trolls should back off.

“I am shocked, horrified, dismayed, and disgusted by all the nasty comments about the Princess of Wales today,” he said in his post. “A woman’s hair is very personal to her, it’s armor, defense, confidence, and so much more.”

He continued, “I cannot believe how evil and lacking in any kind of empathy are the comments, the majority made apparently by other women, attacking a vulnerable other young woman, who has no choice, by dint of who she married and the role she took on, to bravely face the public.”

McKnight added that he was “sure” Kate would “rather be away from the public arena.”

“She has brilliantly and quietly, unselfishly represented our country, the soft power we still have as a nation,” he said. “Cancer affects individuals differently, but is life-changing for everyone. So FFS LEAVE HER ALONE. SHAME ON YOU.”

The Reactions To The Princess’s New Hairdo Have Been Brutal

It comes after Kate debuted her new blonde look as she and her husband, Prince William, visited the Natural History Museum’s newly transformed gardens in London.

The sighting left social media users questioning if she was wearing “a wig.” Some even speculated the reason for the color change was due to the effects of her battle with cancer, while others claimed it may be because she’s “adjusting to grey” hair.

“Not a fan of that hairstyle. It’s literally too much hair,” an X user wrote, while a second said, “Somebody tell Kate to pull her wig down a little.”

Another noted, “Spend some money to buy a decent wig. Come on now. This looks like Party City wigs. Y’all, please get her a black stylist from the States, please.”

“The blonde makes her look bad, and there is too much unnatural volume because of the extensions,” a third critic penned.

However, some fans thought she looked beautiful in it, with one fan writing, “Catherine the Princess of Wales is beautiful.”

Others slammed Kate’s critics for being “cruel” and “nasty” to the mother of three after her cancer battle.

There may be more to Kate’s new hair color than meets the eye, as experts suggest she wants to “reclaim” her image following her cancer recovery.

British psychologist Carolyn Mair, PhD, told Fox News that the mother-of-three may be drawing attention to her blonde hair to show that she’s left her cancer treatment behind after seemingly suffering hair loss due to the condition.

Mair told the news outlet that Kate may want to feel “brighter and more energetic,” adding that hair is a part of our identity.

“Hair is our crowning glory and a symbol of health and femininity,” the expert said. “Kate might want to make a fresh start by embracing a lighter outlook on life.”

Back in March 2024, she announced that she had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer and was undergoing therapy.

She revealed in September that year that she was cancer-free, adding that the health setback was “incredibly tough” for her and her family but that it’d left her with a “renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”

Regarding her hair transformation, British Psychologist Carolyn Mair explained that it might be Kate’s way of reclaiming her “agency” after her cancer battle.
