According to a previous report from The Blast, Snoop Dogg appeared on the “It’s Giving” podcast and slammed movie and TV creators for including too much queer representation in children’s products.

Disney’s “Lightyear,” featuring a diverse range of characters from various backgrounds, isn’t much of a surprise, considering Karey Burke, president of Disney’s General Entertainment Content in 2022, stated that her plans for the company included expanding its content to become more inclusive.

“I’m here as a mother of two queer children, actually,” Burke previously said during a company-wide call. “One transgender child and one pansexual child, and also as a leader.”

Burke went on to explain how she was stunned to learn only a “handful” of Disney’s lead characters were queer.

“And I went, ‘What? That can’t be true,’” Burke said. “And I realized it actually is true. We have many, many, many LGBTQIA characters in our stories and yet we don’t have enough leads and narratives in which gay characters just get to be characters and not have to be about gay stories.”

Disney Fought Against Florida Bill

Amid this, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a new bill into law that would ban Florida teachers from discussing LGBTQ+ topics, including sexual orientation or gender identity, with students unless they’re in the fourth grade or higher.

Disney fought back against the bill, issuing a statement that condemned the legislation for attempting to divide the community.

“Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts, and we remain committed to supporting the national and state organizations working to achieve that,” a Disney spokesperson said.
