Eilish was recognized with the Music Innovator Award during the recently concluded WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards in New York City.

During her acceptance speech, she raised awareness of the unsettling events in the world and called on resourceful people to do something about them.

“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark and people need empathy and help more than kind of ever, especially in our country,” she said, per BuzzFeed

The 23-year-old singer said it’ll be great if people who have money use “it for good things and maybe give it to some people who need it.” Not unaware of the caliber of people who were in the room with her, Eilish acknowledged that “there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me.”

Although Eilish didn’t mention any billionaire celebrity by name in her moving speech, fans online seem to think her words were directed at Taylor Swift.

One fan wrote, “She’s shading Taylor, I think,” and another wrote, “Notice how she said ‘billionaires not donating’ and Taylor’s haters are ignoring it.”

Someone else commented, “The Taylor shade, oh Billie, you’ll always be right,” while this critic penned that Swift would rather “release more versions and earn money than give it out to people who actually need it.”

One fan pointed out that Eilish’s comments were not necessarily about Swift, “but if that shoe fits…” while this user added:

“Billie Eilish just cooked the billionaires in their own room.  ‘Why are you a billionaire? No hate, but give your money away, shorties’ she said while she’s literally donating $11.5M herself. That’s how you drop the mic and the check.”

Fans seem to think Eilish’s comments were directed at Swift because last year the former expressed frustration at seeing artists use wasteful album packaging.

“I find it really frustrating as somebody who really goes out of my way to be sustainable and do the best that I can and try to involve everybody in my team in being sustainable—and then it’s some of the biggest artists in the world making f—– 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more,” she lamented, per The Blast.

The “Ocean Eyes” singer found it “wasteful” and “irritating” that artists were more concerned about making money than about the environment.

Although she didn’t mention any names, fans were quick to speculate that she was talking about Swift, whose “Tortured Poets Department” album was available in four versions.
